Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Foundations Expansion
almost 2 years ago – Fri, May 31, 2024 at 08:20:46 AM

Dear Backers,

As a general policy, we don’t often update past campaigns, but we make exception in two cases. First, if the game has gotten some special recognition, we like to update the original backers so they can see and participate in the game’s continued life. The second reason, as you might guess, is if we are going to expand the game in some way. It’s that reason that has me writing this today.

Oath is getting a pair of expansions. The first expansion dramatically expands the possibilities of the chronicle phase and offers players many new ways to change how their games develop. The second expansion offers a new solitaire (and maybe low-player count) mode of play and is designed by Ricky Royal and Liz Davidson. We’ve been working on both projects for the past several months and the campaign has already exceeded our internal projections. This is tremendously exciting for everyone here at Leder Games. While we don’t use stretch goals, a campaign’s performance still matters quite a bit. It determines the amount of creative resources we get apply towards a project, its general schedule, and helps guide the creative direction of the studio. Crowdfunding campaigns are one of the ways we listen to you all, and, in the case of Oath, folks are speaking very clearly!

We’re also trying out a few new things with this campaign. For instance, we hope to produce a series of video features over the course of the design and development of New Foundations, that takes you inside our studio and offers an even more intimate look at the process of making games. You can see some clips from what we've filmed so far in the header video for the new campaign. Though I love writing design diaries, they are almost always written from a kind of “middle-distance.” We hope these videos will help you better understand the day-to-day work of making a game and the people who make it possible.

If you’re interested in following along, you can find the new campaign here.

Finally, I want once more say thank you. Our current campaign was only made possible because you all took a risk on us many years ago. The love you showed for Oath allowed us to complete the largest project we had yet attempted and offered us the courage and the resources to take on even more ambitious projects such as Arcs. The studio we have today would simply not exist with you all, and we're delighted to be able to turn our attention to the world of Oath once more.

A Design Retrospective, Golden Geek Nominations, and the Future of Oath
almost 4 years ago – Sun, May 08, 2022 at 10:59:48 AM

Hello everyone,

We normally don't post updates to old campaigns, but there were a few bits of news that we wanted to share with you all.

First, I had the honor of speaking at the Lake Superior Design Retreat a few months ago. This was an interesting venue for me.

The conference is mostly attended by architects. However, the vast majority of speakers come from outside of architecture. As a speaker, this is quite a challenge! Generally, when I write about games, I write about them for you all, and you all are quite a specialized audience, with a lot of knowledge about games. When talking to a broader audience, it's hard enough to explain the resurgence of board games, let alone the design of something as strange as Oath.

This circumstance offered me with a wonderful chance to look back the design of Oath with a little distance. If you'd like to listen to the talk, you can find it here:

Second, I'm happy to share that Oath has been nominated for four Golden Geek Awards: Artwork & Presentation, Innovative Design, Heavy Game of the Year, and Thematic Game. This itself is a huge accomplishment, and I'm so proud of the whole team here at Leder Games.

If you're a BGG user, and you'd like to see us win any of those categories (or would rather not see us win!) you can vote here.

Finally, I wanted to let you all know that we are in the early stages of designing an expansion for Oath. There are other projects which are taking up most of our studio bandwidth at the moment, so we won't have a lot of details to share for several more months, but there are some exciting things in the works!

Oath Final Shipping Update (Canadians, Please Read)
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jun 25, 2021 at 12:11:35 AM

Hi everyone!

This will be our final shipping update so please read the following carefully and refer to the bottom of this update on the best ways to contact us for assistance or to request replacement parts.

Canadian Shipments and Customs/Duties Fees

It has come to our attention that a number of Canadian backers are being billed by Fedex for customs and duties fees. First, we’d like to apologize for any inconvenience and reaffirm that this campaign is intended to be Canadian shipping friendly.

The short story is that a particular batch of Canadian packages had erroneously been processed with the wrong settings selected. Normally, duties would be included in our costs but without the proper setting, Fedex has billed these fees to you instead of us. To make things right, we will of course offer a reimbursement to all affected Canadian backers for this extra charge. Please read the Google Form carefully on how reimbursements will be handled and on processing time.

If you are an affected backer, please ensure that you do the following to receive your reimbursement:

  •  If you have received a bill from FedEx, please retain a copy so that it can be provided for our records. If you cannot provide a copy of your bill, you will be ineligible for reimbursement.
  •  Please fill out our Google Form no later than July 16th, 2021 to receive a reimbursement for any customs/duties fees.

If you have already emailed our support regarding this, please still fill out this form for easier processing.

It should also be noted that not all Canadian backers are affected. So unless you receive a bill from Fedex, you are NOT affected by this error.

Shipping Update #3
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Apr 29, 2021 at 03:55:41 AM

Hi everyone!

Please read below on our current shipping status for Oath.

Please remember that your Backerkit account status will NOT be accurate on your current shipping status since direct tracking emails are being sent instead.

Update by Region

US, Canada, and Mexico

The great news is that our containers of Oath have recently reached the port in the US! It will take several days to finish unloading and be transported to our warehouse in MN. We’re expecting our first container of Oath to reach our shipping warehouse next week with fulfillment processing starting on May 7th.

North America is by far our largest region to fulfill so please be patient as we expect fulfillment to be complete in 4-6 weeks. In total, we estimate all fulfillment to be complete by mid-June with tracking information being emailed once your shipping label has been processed. Please note that there may be a few days’ delay between when your tracking information is received and when your package will show a pick up scan by the courier.

Europe and Rest of World

Europe and rest of world shipments have now all left the warehouse! Please note that some packages are still in transit and normally take 1-2 weeks for delivery.

Tracking emails were sent when packages left the shipping facility so please ensure you check your inbox and spam folders if you haven not yet seen your tracking information. If you still do not have this information, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Asia

Shipments should be reaching their hubs soon for local fulfillment. To check on your country’s hub status, please refer to http://vfi.asia/hubs/. Overall, we still expect all shipments to Asia to be delivered by the end of May.

Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand shipping is complete. If you are in either region, and have not yet received your Oath pledge, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Retail Backers

North American retail pledges will process right after individual backer orders have gone out and will process some time in June. Tracking will be emailed directly once pledges have shipped.

European and Rest of World retail pledges are still being processed and will be leaving the warehouse in a few weeks. Tracking will be emailed directly once pledges have shipped.

Retail pledges to Asia should already be in transit toward their local hubs for delivery once it reaches their destination country and should arrive in 4-6 weeks’ time.

Retail pledges to Australia and New Zealand are complete.

If there are any questions, please email [email protected].

Support, Replacements, and Other Questions

If you need any assistance, please email us at [email protected] and we'll help you out! Please refrain from using the Kickstarter messaging system for questions or assistance.

Shipping Update #2
about 5 years ago – Thu, Mar 18, 2021 at 02:30:52 AM

Hi everyone!

Here’s a small update on where we currently are with fulfillment:

Update by Region

US, Canada, and Mexico

Some great news is that Oath is now loaded onto a boat that is scheduled to set sail before the end of the week! We’re keeping fingers crossed that there will be no further delays and if all goes well, we should be expecting Oath to reach the port in the US by late April. After processing at the port and unloading, we should still hopefully be on track to start fulfillment in May and be fully complete before the end of May. Thanks everyone for your patience!

UK, Europe, and Rest of World

The Oath shipment has reached the port in Germany but has been pulled for a customs inspection. This inspection is scheduled to process next week and if all goes smoothly, should be at the shipping facility by the end of the month. Once in hand, fulfillment will begin immediately and we expect all shipments to be complete before the end of April.

Australia and New Zealand

Oath is now at the shipping facility and will commence fulfillment any day now! Once started, we should expect it to take 2-3 weeks to complete and be wrapped up by mid to late April.

Asia

Packing has started in China and we should be on track for most, if not all, packages to be packed and ready to be loaded for hub shipping by the end of the month. Through hub shipping, orders will make their way to their destination country to be fulfilled locally by a local distribution partner. Travel time on the water can range from anywhere between 4-8 weeks depending on the destination. All pledges should be delivered by May.

Retail Backers

Retail pledges adhere to the estimated shipping timelines outlined above and will process right after individual backer orders have gone out.

If there are any questions, please email [email protected].

Support and Questions

If you need any assistance, please email us at [email protected] and we'll help you out! We unfortunately are working through a backlog due to the recent Root Marauder campaign but we’ll get to you as soon as we can. Please refrain from using the Kickstarter messaging system for questions or assistance.
